If your drains are frequently blocked by leaves and debris, you should maintain a regular cleaning routine to prevent any long term problems. blocked drains can cause flooding, bad odours from rotting vegetation and even weaken the strength of your roofing, so it should always be dealt with promptly.

Many drains can become blocked with debris and dirt, so start off by removing any visible excess with your hands (be sure to wear gloves) before inserting a drain rod into the blocked pipe. You will need to break the blockage apart with the drain rod and flush out any excess dirt with a hose pipe or bucket of water.

To clear the more stubborn blockages, you may have to consider using a power jet to flush out the waste. This is usually recommended if manual clearing or the drain rod is not sufficient.

Although clearing blocked drains and guttering can be an annoyance, you may find that buying a drain cover or applying some wide gauze to your guttering may prevent any leaves or vegetation finding its way into your pipework.
